Adding mods lets you customise your ARK server. This guide explains how ARK handles them and walks through installing them safely.
How ARK handles mods
ARK uses Steam Workshop mods. You add the Workshop mod IDs to the -mods= startup argument, and the server downloads them automatically when it boots. Mod order matters, list them in the order you want them to load.
Step by step
- Stop the server from the panel.
- Find the mods you want on the Steam Workshop and copy each mod ID.
- Open the Startup tab and add the IDs to
-mods=, separated by commas. - Restart and give the server several minutes to download everything.
- Make sure every player subscribes to the same mods in Steam.
- Start the server and watch the Console for load messages.
Keep them working
- Update mods whenever the game updates, mismatched versions are the main cause of problems.
- Players usually need the same content to join.
- Add a few at a time so you can spot any that cause issues.
