Troubleshooting Your Garry's Mod Server

Most Garry's Mod problems have quick fixes. Work through this guide before opening a ticket, and you will solve most issues yourself.

First checks

  1. Open the Console and read the most recent messages, errors usually point straight at the cause.
  2. Try a Restart from the panel.
  3. Check the CPU and RAM graphs, constant high usage means you need a bigger plan.
  4. Make sure the game and any addons are up to date.

Common problems and fixes

  • Players see missing textures or errors. Everyone needs the Workshop content. Use a collection so it downloads on join, or host the content.
  • Workshop content will not download. Check the collection ID and that a Steam Web API key is set in the Startup tab.
  • Players cannot connect. Confirm the server is on and the gamemode is installed.
