How to Update Your Garry's Mod Server

How updates work

Garry's Mod updates through Steam when the server restarts. Keep your Workshop content current so it matches the game.

Safe update checklist

  1. Take a backup first.
  2. Update the server as described above.
  3. Update any addons to match the new version.
  4. Start up and check the Console for errors before letting players back on.

If something breaks

Restore the backup you took to roll back, then try the update again once the addons you use have caught up.
