How to Reduce Lag on Your Rust Server

Lag usually comes down to resources or settings. This guide covers the changes that make the biggest difference on a Rust server.

Check your usage first

Open your server page and watch the CPU and RAM graphs while players are on. If either sits near 100 percent, the simplest fix is moving up to the next plan.

Tune the server

  • Reduce server.worldsize, a smaller map uses far less RAM and CPU.
  • Keep an eye on entity counts, large bases and lots of deployables add load.
  • Limit the number of plugins, some are heavy.
  • Schedule a daily restart to clear memory.
  • Move up a plan for populations above 100 players.

Keep it healthy

  • Schedule a daily restart to clear memory.
  • Remove plugins you do not use.
  • Keep the game and add-ons updated.
