How to Update Your Rust Server

Running the latest version keeps your Rust server secure and compatible with current plugins. This guide shows how to update without breaking your setup.

How updates work

Rust updates when the server restarts. After a Rust update you must also update Oxide and your plugins, or they may stop working. Rust forces a map wipe on the first Thursday of each month.

Safe update checklist

  1. Take a backup first.
  2. Update the server as described above.
  3. Update any plugins to match the new version.
  4. Start up and check the Console for errors before letting players back on.

If something breaks

Restore the backup you took to roll back, then try the update again once the plugins you use have caught up.
