How to Configure Your Terraria Server

You control how your Terraria server plays through its configuration. This guide shows where the settings live, what the important ones do, and how to apply changes without losing data.

Open the config

Go to the File Manager and open serverconfig.txt. Click to edit, make your changes, then save. Take a backup first so you can roll back if something goes wrong.

The settings you will use most

  • worldname: the world the server loads
  • autocreate: world size to create if none exists (1 small, 2 medium, 3 large)
  • difficulty: 0 normal, 1 expert, 2 master
  • maxplayers: player slots
  • password: set this to make the server private
  • motd: the welcome message

Apply your changes

Most settings take effect after a Restart from the panel. If a change causes a problem, restore your backup to undo it.

Tips

  • Change one thing at a time so you know what caused any change in behaviour.
  • Keep a note of values you have changed from the defaults.
  • Back up before any large change.

Everything above is done from the 8Bit Hosting panel. Need help? Open a ticket in our Discord or email support@8bit-hosting.com.
