How to Update Your Terraria Server

Running the latest version keeps your Terraria server secure and compatible with current mods. This guide shows how to update without breaking your setup.

How updates work

Update Terraria or tModLoader from the Startup tab, then restart. Keep mods matched to the tModLoader version.

Safe update checklist

  1. Take a backup first.
  2. Update the server as described above.
  3. Update any mods to match the new version.
  4. Start up and check the Console for errors before letting players back on.

If something breaks

Restore the backup you took to roll back, then try the update again once the mods you use have caught up.
